In Memory of Dr. Ruben P. Diaz
A pediatric pulmonologist remembered not only for his medical expertise, but for the compassion, generosity and advocacy he gave to every child and family he cared for.
Dr. Ruben P. Diaz served as Director of Children’s Lung Specialists and the Cystic Fibrosis Center before his passing in December 2004 at the age of 51. During his 14 years as a Las Vegas pediatrician, he helped develop the Lied Pulmonary Clinic at University Medical Center and was involved in clinical drug trials and research aimed at improving treatments for children with cystic fibrosis, asthma, exercise-induced bronchospasm and other pulmonary disorders.
Dr. Diaz received a number of honors, including Physician of the Year in Pediatrics. His greatest legacy, however, was the way he cared for people. He treated every child with the same dignity and attention, regardless of whether a family could afford care or whether they faced language barriers. Even in the most challenging cases, he maintained an optimistic spirit and remained a tireless advocate for children.
